Useful things to know about UTM links.

What is a UTM link?

An ordinary URL with campaign parameters. Its tags describe the source, medium and campaign behind the link. Tags do not collect analytics by themselves.

Where do I see the results?

In your analytics system. In GA4, campaign information appears in reports including Traffic acquisition. Results depend on functioning analytics and the relevant permission to collect data.

Should I tag links between pages on my own site?

Use UTM tags for external campaign links. For clicks between your own pages, use event measurement instead to avoid misleading campaign information.

Can I use spaces and accented characters?

The tool encodes characters correctly in the URL and replaces spaces in tag values with hyphens. Shared lowercase naming conventions make campaigns easier to compare.

Can I put names or email addresses in the tags?

Avoid personal information and secrets. UTM tags are visible in the URL and may appear in analytics reports and logs.
